Why actual transfers vary

The estimate uses sustained throughput, not advertised link speed alone. Small files, encryption, latency, source-disk speed, destination writes, snapshots, and competing traffic can reduce performance.

  • Measure sustained throughput during a representative test.
  • Schedule backups with margin instead of targeting 100% of the window.
  • Initial full backups may take far longer than daily incremental jobs.
